Toastmasters è un corso per imparare a parlare in pubblico?
Toastmasters è un percorso tra pari, dove a turno si prepara un discorso, seguendo i Pathways di Toastmasters International, si fanno le valutazioni e si svolgono le altre attività di supporto alla serata. Lo spirito di servizio e di reciprocità sono molto forti, si è tutti motivati dal desiderio di migliorare il proprio modo di parlare in pubblico e di aiutare gli altri a fare lo stesso.

Quanto costa?
Toastmaster è un’organizzazione no-profit. La quota serve a mantenere la struttura e a sostenere le spese vive del Club. Tutti coloro che lavorano alla vita del Club lo fanno come attività di volontariato e di crescita personale.
L’iscrizione come nuovo socio è di 215 Euro (valida dal 1 Ottobre al 30 Settembre dell’anno successivo) ed è comprensiva di
• iscrizione a Toastmasters International (che include l’accesso alla guida del percorso formativo Pathways)
• spese per il Milan-Easy Toastmasters Club.

Invece la partecipazione come ospiti è gratuita.

Si parla in inglese o in italiano?
I club sono internazionali, abbiamo soci da tutto il mondo che, per lo più, tengono discorsi in inglese, ma talvolta si cimentano anche in italiano. A loro volta gli italiani si sforzano a tenere i discorsi in inglese, valutati da raffinati madrelingua. Quindi generalmente le serate sono miste in due lingue.

Dove ci si trova?
Prima della pandemia, dal vivo, al Museo d’Arte e Scienza via Quintino Sella, 4 a Milano. Oggi sfruttiamo la piattaforma Zoom per le nostre riunioni con la certezza di migrare presto ad un modello “ibrido” dove si potrà partecipare da casa ad un meeting in presenza. In alcune occasioni speciali le serate vengono organizzate in altre location. In questi casi viene data preventivamente informazioni sul sito e sulla pagina Facebook.

Quando ci si trova e a che ora?
Ci incontriamo due martedì al mese alternati, il secondo e il quarto di ogni mese, dalle 19:00 alle 21:00. È richiesta la puntualità. Meglio arrivare verso le 18.45 soprattutto le prime volte per fare due chiacchiere esplicative con noi.

Come funzionano gli incontri?
Ogni serata è costituita da tre sessioni principali:

1. I discorsi preparati: tre, quattro a sera a turno, con obiettivi diversi da raggiungere a seconda del livello di discorso, secondo il programma educativo di Toastmasters. Possono essere tenuti in inglese o in italiano.

2. La sessione di improvvisazione molto divertente che coinvolge anche gli ospiti se hanno piacere di partecipare e che dura in tutto 15 minuti.

3. La sessione di valutazione con valutatori singoli che commentano a voce i singoli discorsi e feedback scritti da parte di tutti.

C’è un limite alla presenze di ospiti agli eventi?
Non esiste un limite vero e proprio; l’unico vincolo è la capacità della sala utilizzata per il meeting. Per controllare la disponibilità di posti è consigliabile visitare e confermare la propria presenza su Eventbrite. Questo dà modo a noi di gestire al meglio l’accoglienza degli ospiti e l’organizzazione della sala.

Is Toastmasters a course to learn how to speak in public?

It is more than a course, it’s a Path followed by people on the same level, where each prepares a speech (following Toastmasters International Pathways), there are evaluations and other activities are done in support of the meeting. The spirit of mutual service is strong, everyone is motivated by their desire for self-improvement in public speaking and to help others do the same.

How much does it cost?

The Toastmaster is a non-profit organization. The fee is used to maintain the structure and to support the expenses of the Club. All those who work in the life of the Club they do it as volunteer work and personal growth.

Registration for new members costs 215 Euro (from 1th October to 30th September) and it implies:
• enrollment in Toastmasters International (which includes the access to the new Pathways learning program)
• expenses for Milan-Easy Toastmasters Club.
For those who register during the year, they are expected to pay proportionally to the number of meetings to which they will participate as members of the Club (the path of a Toastmaster is personal and it is possible to subscribe at any time of the year).

However, participating as a guest is free.

Do we speak English or Italian?
The clubs are international: we have members that are American, British, Balkan, Turkish, etc. who, for the most part, give speeches in English, but sometimes strive to do so in Italian. In turn, some Italians prepare speeches in English. So generally the evenings are “blended”.

Where are you located?
At Museo d’Arte e Scienza in Milan, in via Quintino Sella 4, but it is always best to check our website, just in case of a change to another venue. After the pandemic we are on zoom.

When do you meet and at what time?
We meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Punctuality is required. It’s best to arrive at around 6:45 pm the first few times to chat with us and get to know the organization.

How do the meetings run?
Each meeting consists of three main sessions:

1. The speeches, three or four per night, have different objectives depending on the level of discourse, and according to a Toastmasters International learning program. The speeches can be held in English or Italian

2. The very funny improvisation session, in which guests are invited to participate and last around 15 minutes.

3. The evaluation session with individual evaluators who comment vocally on each individual speech and written feedback is requested from everyone.

Is there a limit to the presence of guests at the events?
There is not a real limit; the only constraint is the capacity of the room used for meetings. To check the availability of places it is advisable to visit and confirm the presence of Eventbrite. This allows us to welcome the guests and organise the room in the best way possible.
